Now it’s getting serious on “American Idol.” The veteran Fox show, in its 15th and final season, has winnowed its pool of contestants down to five finalists as Trent Harmon, Dalton Rapattoni, La’Porsha Renae, MacKenzie Bourg and Sonika Vaid battle for America’s heart — and for the praise of “Idol” judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban. “La’Porsha will win the farewell season,” says Gold Derby senior editor Marcus James Dixon, who covers “American Idol” for the awards site. “She is the only person who continues to give us memorable moments week after week. “But don’t count out Dalton,” Dixon says. “He fits right in with the ‘rocker guy’ mentality that’s won so many times in the past: David Cook, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani.” Here’s a look at your five “American Idol” finalists, with comments from Dixon on their strengths and weaknesses.
